Senate Bill 3 has is a top priority for high ranking Senators. And it s popular because it contains a provision increasing the death benefit for soldiers killed in combat from $12,000 to $100,000.
But, if passed, S. 3 will have far-reaching consequences and significantly undermine your health rights on many fronts: It will:
1) nullify any state laws related to the regulation of drugs and vaccines – thereby overturning existing laws banning mercury in vaccines and prohibiting any future state laws regulating drugs.
2) bar states from warning their citizens about drug or vaccine safety issues if that warning is different than any federal information.
3) gift drug and vaccine makers with a financial windfall through millions of dollars of grants and tax credits, fast-tracking vaccine approval, extension of patents and comprenensive liability protection.
4) invade health privacy by establishing a national electronic surveillance program to collect and analyze a wide-range of your health data, including all data relating to “diseases, including vital records, registries, chronic diseases and maternal and child health data”

We have known since July 2004 that Michael had a brother--Richard Allen--who died when Michael was three years old. How do you chose a dentist? Maybe the following checklist will help you in the decision making process. Print a copy of the checklist, phone potential dentists and ask them the questions. Be sure to pay attention to how you are treated by the receptionist while you are asking the questions. Are they open? guarded? quarrlesome? "put off" by your questions? do crowns? Dentists may recommend crowning teeth to "protect/strengthen" them. Just say "NO!" When the enamel is removed to do this procedure, permanent and serious damage is done to the tooth. The ADA’s efforts to protect Mercury fillings by shackling dentists are collapsing. Dental boards are backing off and are not bringing any more cases to stifle dentist’s Free Speech, while we are on the offensive -- attacking the ADA’s notorious Gag Rule in every region of the nation.
The Gag Rule is a pillar of the ADA’s agenda to block consumers from learning that the major component of amalgam is Mercury. The Gag Rule instructs dentists to abandon their allegiance to patient health care -- to remain silent or face disciplinary action.

This Friday, June 4, the Minnesota Dental Board will have a public hearing on a from Consumers for Dental Choice, (http://www.toxicteeth.org) one joined by IAOMT and local consumers Mary Puff and Nancy Hokkanen. With DAMS Executive Director Leo Cashman coordinating the effort, we are presenting speakers from dentistry (Dr. Jim Carlson), nursing (Eugenia McGrath), and consumer activists like Kip Sullivan and Bob Asher.
The petition seeks the end of the gag rule – which has already been condemned by the state Attorney General – and the start of the process to write a fact sheet, as Maine and California have done. This follows the coverage on WCCO Channel 4 TV in Minneapolis - St Paul last Wednesday on dental mercury. The Channel 4 news team traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, to interview chemistry professor Boyd Haley, who has written extensively on mercury and its toxicological effects. Haley did a mercury vapor demonstration after brushing a child’s amalgam-filled teeth 15 times with a toothbrush. The mercury vapor level was so high that it pegged the meter. All of this was captured by the TV cameras.

California Dental Association, may decide whether organized dentistry is allowed to maintain this “rule of conduct” to stop dentists from talking to the public or their patients about mercury’s toxicity. Shawn will argue the case before the High Court later this year, assisted by our team of Matt plus Editor Mike McClory and Supreme Court specialist attorney Daniel Smith.

In a brazen attempt to stop patients from learning about Mercury fillings, the Alabama dental board sued Huntsville dentist Dr. Ada Frazier simply for advertising that she is a mercury-free dentist. After her lawyer, Bubba Grimsley, mounted a vigorous defense, the dental board put the case on hold. Meanwhile, federal and state African-American lawmakers have raised concerns about this effort to single out Dr. Frazier and deprive her of her Constitutional right to advertise what kind of dentistry she does.
The Mercury Fillings issue is also getting substantial debate in Alabama. Attached: article in Birmingham News, once again, the state’s largest newspaper. The story went nationwide, such as to Ohio’s major newspaper, the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
We believe the case against Dr. Frazier will be the last any dental board, acting as proxy for the ADA, will attempt. As we are showing in Alabama and Connecticut, now it’s the dental board – not the mercury-free dentist – who is losing ground!

I have read hundreds of web pages devoted to this debacle, and have read various books on the topic of mercury in fillings. It is clear to me that Michael and I needed to get the mercury out of our mouths, but there are dangers in removal--one single bit of this substance, inadvertently going through Michael's system could spell disaster to his already ailing immune system and liver. They recommend that fillings with high readings be promptly removed. Other dentists have a mercury "sniffer" that measures the level of mercury vapor in the mouth. An effective way to treat mercury toxicity is to have the fillings replaced with mercury-free materials. It is important to begin a chelation program before filling removal, and then to continue the program after removal. This is important to bind heavy metals in the body to allow their excretion. Without starting a chelation program, one can have very high levels of mercury in the body as it is released during mercury removal. Pregnant women should avoid dental work for this reason. ... Join the international movement to ban mercury fillings. We cannot look for leadership from the American Dental Association (ADA) on this issue. The ADA was founded at the turn of the century as a lobbying group to promote mercury fillings. They have blocked progress toward eliminating the use of mercury in dentistry up to the present day. It would be worthwhile to provide information to your dentist if your dentist uses mercury, and to recommend that she/he helps the ADA re-evaluate their position. Many holistic practitioners argue that it is unconscionable for dentists to use mercury with the availability of information on its risks. I have seen too many people with cancer in whom mercury fillings were probably a contributing cause. California Judge Approves Landmark Warning on Mercury Use in Dentistry. (San Francisco, CA) - For the first time anywhere, dentists will be required to post a warning about the dangers of mercury in their dental fillings. A California Superior court judge finalized the language for the warning to be posted in dentists' offices here today. The warning will read as follows: Notice to Patients, Proposition 65: Warning on dental amalgams, used in many dental fillings, causes exposure to mercury, a chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Root canal treatments and restorations including fillings, crowns and bridges, use chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has studied the situation and approved for use all dental restorative materials. Consult your dentist to determine which materials are appropriate for your treatment. The exact language of the warning was argued and then finalized before Superior Court Judge James A. Robertson II between the California Dental Association, the largest constituent organization of the American Dental Association and Attorney Shawn Khorrami (Cor-ahm-mee). The agreement requires its member dentists to warn patients about the toxic dangers of mercury dental fillings and root canals. The agreement also allows non-CDA dentists to opt in to the agreement and post the warning. The warning is the result of a lawsuit filed by The Law Offices of Shawn Khorrami on behalf of As You Sow, a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to advocacy and activism in the public interest. This is the first admission by organized dentistry that amalgams pose a potential health risk," says Shawn Khorrami, lead attorney. "The only problem is that it's about 100 years too late" This California consent judgment follows on the heels of recent lawsuits filed in Georgia, Texas, Ohio and Los Angeles, California charging that mercury fillings placed in a woman's mouth contributed to the autism of her child, as well as lawsuits in Maryland, California, and New York charging the American Dental Association with misrepresenting amalgam dental fillings as "silver"; The lawsuits basically allege that such fillings actually contain approximately 50% mercury by weight. They cause continuous, daily exposure to mercury and, thereby pose substantial health risks to certain users. Mercury, a highly toxic substance, is the most widely used substance in dental fillings today.

"Sometime this month, the government of Norway will release for public comment the recommendation that dentists no longer use dental amalgam. That's the word from Liljan Aandahl, senior advisor to the Norwegian Directorate for Health and Social Welfare. The public will have three months to respond to the proposal, which could be enacted Jan. 1, 2003.
The Norway recommendation is among the most recent actions on amalgam by any government. In 1997, the World Health Organization hosted a conference titled "Dental Amalgam and its Alternatives," which included government officials, academics and representatives of professional organizations from New Zealand, France, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Finland, England and the United States.
The participants unanimously endorsed a consensus statement that reads, in part, "Dental amalgam restorations are considered safe, but components of amalgam and other dental restorative materials may, in rare instances, cause local side-effects or allergic reactions. The small amount of mercury released from amalgam restorations, especially during placement and removal, has not been shown to cause any other adverse health effects."
